Day 1. Arrive Paris

Representing the essence of France, Paris is a brilliant city in which to begin this European journey. Upon arrival at the airport, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Reception, where you’ll meet fellow travellers and your Travelmarvel Tour Director.

    Day 2. Paris

    This morning, open the door to some of Paris’ best-loved sights on a city tour. Take in one of the world’s most iconic streets, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, as well as the Arc de Triomphe. Head down to the Seine River to explore the impressive Gothic cathedral, Notre Dame. A Taste of Paris - you’ll then ascend to the first viewing level of the Eiffel Tower, where sweeping city panoramas and a lunch of delicious French cuisine await. With the rest of the day at leisure, you’re faced with near endless options for exploration.

    Day 3. Paris

    A city of romance, culture and breezy boulevards, Paris is known to rejuvenate the senses and stimulate the soul. You may choose to enjoy an optional Culinary Walk today, strolling the charming Parisian streets, stopping to sample a range of French delicacies along the way. Perhaps take time to explore the Latin Quarter or the Louvre Museum. Tonight, an optional visit to world-famous Moulin Rouge, birthplace of the can-can, is on offer.

    Day 4. Paris, Amsterdam

    Say au revoir to Paris after breakfast. Board your coach and traverse the beautiful landscapes of northern France, Belgium and The Netherlands on today’s journey to the colourful Dutch capital, Amsterdam, to board your river ship.     Day 5. Amsterdam

    Clustered by historic houses and studded with low bridges, Amsterdam’s network of 17th-century canals lends the city its nickname - ‘The Venice of the North’. Today, you’ll board a glass-top boat and glide past the city’s impressive waterside facades. Back on land, travel by coach via Rembrandt’s Windmill, immortalised in the artist’s paintings, to Utrecht. From here, your ship will set off along the Rhine as you enjoy a Welcome Cocktail Reception and a Captain’s Gala Welcome Dinner.

    Day 6. Cologne, Koblenz

    Having entered Germany, your cruise continues on to Cologne, a city geographically and spiritually centred around the twin spires of Kölner Dom - a cathedral that was once the world’s tallest building. Enjoy a locally guided tour, including a A Taste of Cologne - where you’ll visit a local brewery to sample regional beer. Then, re-board your ship to cruise to the 2,000 year-old city of Koblenz in the Rhine Valley. You might choose to take a post-dinner stroll with your Cruise Director to explore the city’s charming old town.

    Day 7. Marksburg Castle, Rüdesheim

    Like a Local - visit Marksburg Castle for a Private Medieval Reception, as you enjoy a glass of honey wine followed by a tour of the castle. Re-board your ship to experience a true highlight of the holiday cruising through the Rhine Gorge, considered by locals to be the most beautiful section of the Rhine River. Watch in awe as steep slopes covered in vineyards and dotted with ancient castles drift past, before your ship docks in Rüdesheim, the perfect example of a Rhine Gorge wine town.     Day 8. Aschaffenburg

    Like a Local - A German Fairytale. Visit the charming historic Old Town of Hanau, birthplace of the Brothers Grimm, for a tour, followed by a visit to Mespelbrunn Castle. Explore this beautifully evocative medieval moated fortress, considered one of Germany's finest castles, surrounded by the sprawling Spessart Forest. Return to your ship and enjoy an onboard demonstration of the art of glass blowing as you glide along the Main River. As the sun sets, watch the glittering lights of medieval towns glide past as you cruise through the night to Würzburg.

    Day 9. Wurzburg

    Verdant hills and rich vineyards sit on the fringe of Würzburg, while the Main River is a prominent feature of this stunning city. The architectural beauty that further defines Würzburg is on show today as you visit the Residential Palace and a number of local churches whose styles range from Romanesque, Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic to Modern. Later, you may wish to take an optional excursion along the Romantic Road to the beautiful well-preserved medieval town of Rothenburg.     Day 10. Bamberg

    One of the few German cities that wasn’t destroyed during World War II, World Heritage-listed Bamberg beckons this morning. You’ll gain great local insight during a locally guided tour of the beautiful city centre, which boasts historic churches and palaces, as well as a number of famous breweries and taverns. Later, your ship will reach the Main-Danube Canal.

    Day 11. Nuremberg

    The site of Hitler’s now infamous Nuremberg rallies, held annually from 1927 to 1938, Nuremberg played a pivotal role for the Nazis during World War II. You’ll learn about the city and indeed the era during a fascinating World War II tour that includes such sites as the Zeppelin Field and the Palace of Justice. Afterwards, continue over the Main-Danube Canal, crossing Europe’s Continental Divide (435 metres above sea level) thanks to the canal’s series of stair-step locks.

    Day 12. Regensburg

    Having reached the Danube River overnight, Regensburg awaits at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers. Here, a guided tour tells of the medieval city’s journey through the ages. See the ancient Stone Bridge, which gracefully arches across the water, as well as the Old Town Hall, the World Heritage-listed city centre and the Porta Pretoria - gates to a Roman fort built in 179 AD.     Day 13. Passau, Linz

    Wake up this morning in the pretty ‘Three Rivers City’ of Passau - so-called because it’s here that the rivers Inn and Ilz join the Danube. Go for a stroll taking in the city’s impressive architecture, then cruise across the border into Austria on the way to Linz. As an alternative to today’s activities, you may opt to take a drive to Salzburg for a tour of the city’s ‘Sound of Music’ sights; or take an excursion to Ceský Krumlov in the Czech Republic.

    Day 14. Melk, Dürnstein

    Dock in Melk and join a local guide for a tour through magnificent Melk Abbey, an active Benedictine monastery since 1089 that sits majestically atop a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube River. After the tour, cruise to the quaint town of Dürnstein, where you can walk over cobbled streets past 16th-century town houses and taverns.
