Meet Travelmarvel Tour Director – Simona Durston

Simona's team of tour directors is more like a family to her as it is where she met her husband, Nick.

Located in Prague, Czech Republic, Tour Director Simona Durston tells us how her 11 years with Travelmarvel has been much more than just a job, and more like family.
What does your job entail and what do you love most about it?
For me, it is more than just a job. It’s a special opportunity to make people's holidays unforgettable; introducing and presenting the countries they visit in an exciting and interesting manner and making sure they feel safe, comfortable and relaxed. Seeing their smiling faces gives me a great deal of satisfaction.

What has been your favourite on-tour moment?
Seeing our guests laughing, making new friends and generally enjoying themselves on tour. Also being part of their exciting and memorable experiences. It makes me happy, when doing our end-of-tour quiz, to know that guests listened to me and remember the subjects we discussed.

What is your favourite thing about working for Travelmarvel?
I love the family togetherness of the whole company and for sure the wonderful support of the operations team. Also, thanks to our company ,I met my husband Nick, who is also a Tour Director and we share a successful professional as well as personal relationship. In fact, the two are intertwined and compliment each other.
What does travel mean to you?
For me, travelling is not just about working for our company, it is actually one of my biggest hobbies, which I share with my husband. So when I am not working I still travel frequently to explore new and old destinations, immersing myself in the culture and traditions of those areas. Many things that I learn on my travels I pass on to our guests if I feel they might find it interesting. Being a professional guide in the Czech Republic, I am naturally interested in history, culture and architecture. Travel allows me to constantly update all the knowledge I have acquired over the years.
What destination is 'calling' you?
At the moment, due to Covid, it is difficult. We were due to go on a tour of Scotland this year visiting castles, lochs, cities and enjoying long mountain walks. Hopefully we can still do this some time in the future.
