Marvel at Shwedagon Pagoda, a 99 metre-high gilded pagoda and stupa that dominates the city skyline from atop Singuttara Hill.


Arrive in Yangon, you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to the Irrawaddy River where you’ll board the RV Princess Panhwar, your beautiful home for the next 14 nights. Settle in and enjoy lunch on board. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Dinner on board.

Explore the sights of Yangon today including the 2,000-year-old Sule Pagoda and Kandawgyi Lake which glimmers with the reflection of Shwedagon Pagoda. Take a walk down Pansoden Street to see British colonial buildings before lunch onboard your river ship. Watch the countryside drift by this afternoon as you cruise up the Irrawaddy.

Continue along the Irrawaddy Delta and stop to explore Danuphyu, where the revered General Maha Bandula led a famous Burmese defensive against British troops during the First Anglo-Burmese War. Disembark to visit the Monastery of Maha Bandula and a home cheroot-making workshop. Later, cruise to Hinthata.

Today take in views of the Akauk Mountains and their cliff carvings as you cruise towards Pyay, where you’ll disembark for a tour. Established by the British Irrawaddy Flotilla Company, the town originally served as a cargo transit point between Upper and Lower Myanmar. See a selection of gilded pagodas, including the Shwesandaw Pagoda, then travel to the ancient ruins at the old Pyu kingdom capital, Sri Ksetra.

Cruise to the British colonial town of Thayetmyo today and visit Myanmar’s oldest golf course, which was established in 1877.

Stop in Minhla, the site of a significant battle during the Third Anglo-Burmese War. Take a boat to visit Minhla fort, which was built to keep the British forces out of Myanmar. Later, cruise to Magwe to visit its market and Myathalon Pagoda.

Cruise to Salay, a religious centre. Visit Yoke Sone Kyaung, the region’s oldest wooden monastery. Then continue to Shinbin Maha Laba Man Paya, home to Myanmar’s largest lacquer Buddha image from the 13th century.

This morning enjoy the Nyaung-U market. Mingle with the locals and browse the wares sold at this trade hub. Later visit Ananda Temple, the best preserved of all the temples known as the ‘Westminster Abbey of Myanmar’. Have your camera ready for a special sunset viewing. In the evening back on board your ship, enjoy a puppet show.

At sunrise, perhaps ride a hot air balloon over the pagodas of Bagan.


Enjoy a full day to discover Bagan, beginning with a visit to the golden Shwezigon Pagoda, one of the country’s most significant religious sites. Later, discover Gubyaukgyi Temple, a 13th-century ‘cave temple’ with an Indian-style spire. Continue to a lacquerware workshop and a local village.

This morning enjoy a lecture on board before an afternoon tour of the village of Yandabo, the site where the Treaty of the First Anglo-Burmese War was signed. It’s also famous for its terracotta pots.

Ride by horse-drawn cart, taking in Maha Aung Mye Bon Zan Monastery and the teak-wood Bagaya Monastery.


Arrive in Inwa, an ancient imperial capital of the Burmese kingdoms. See the ‘Leaning Tower of Inwa’ – a watch tower that was damaged by an earthquake in 1838. Later enjoy a cultural show by the Mandalay fine arts school.

Disembark your ship after breakfast and transfer to Mandalay airport for your flight to Heho. Spend the afternoon at leisure, perhaps relaxing in your hotel’s infinity pool with a swim-up bar and enjoy stunning lake views over dinner.
