This morning the Palace on Wheels makes its first stop in the capital of Rajasthan, the Pink City of Jaipur. Whilst sightseeing in this incredible city you’ll visit Jaipur’s most distinctive landmark, The Palace of the Winds. Designed to resemble the crown of Krishna, the palace’s ornate facade once allowed the ladies of the royal court to observe life in the street below. You’ll also venture to the magnificent Amber Fort, former capital of the Jaipur state. Here you will enjoy lunch in the Palace Hotel before re-boarding the train as it continues its journey west towards Ranthambore.Daily :
Ranthambore National Park, Chittorgarh
Disembark the train this morning for an exciting visit to Ranthambore National Park.
One of the biggest and most well-renowned national parks in Northern India, Ranthambore is home to a variety of native wildlife. You’ll have the opportunity to spot leopards, crocodiles and of course the elusive Bengal tiger. Later, head to Chittorgarh and explore its incredible Heritage-listed hilltop fort, the largest fort complex in India. Here you’ll see the impressive Tower of Victory and the Tower of Fame.Daily :
The Palace on Wheels reaches Udaipur this morning, where you’ll leave the train for lunch before departing on a tour of the town. Later, embark on a cruise on the tranquil Lake Pichola. This morning the train arrives in Jaisalmer, a fairytale walled town in the Thar Desert. Here you’ll explore the narrow twisting streets of the town centre and see the beautiful merchants’ houses. This evening, enjoy dinner at a local hotel before the train departs for Jodhpur.Daily :
Jodhpur is known as the ‘Blue City’ due to the bright blue hue of the painted houses within the old walls. During a morning tour, you’ll see the impenetrable walls of the mighty Mehrangarh Fort and Palace with its fine sandstone carvings. Depart on a trip to the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary by rickshaw.
Travel to Agra where you will disembark the Palace on Wheels for the final time. Venture to the World Heritage-listed Agra Fort, an impressive maze of buildings constructed in 1565 under Emperor Akbar. Then it’s on to see India’s most iconic landmark, the mesmerising Taj Mahal. Created by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved wife, the architectural masterpiece took at least 20,000 people 22 years to build.
