Leaving Edinburgh today, transfer to the station for the journey across Scotland to Glasgow. Enjoy the passing views of rolling hills and moorlands as your train makes its way through the picturesque countryside to join your Insider Experience. On arrival at Spean Bridge, transfer to your hotel in time for dinner this evening. After dinner, enjoy a whisky tasting and talk, with the chance to sample Scotland’s much-loved national drink and biggest export.

This morning, travel across the Skye Bridge to the Isle of Skye, stopping at Eilean Donan Castle along the way. You’ll have the opportunity to pause for photos and explore the Visitor Centre. Continue to Armadale Castle for a guided tour this afternoon. The castle was built during the 18th and 19th centuries as the home of Clan Donald, but fell into ruin in 1925. Its remains are now draped in ivy, and is exactly how you’d expect a medieval fortress to look. Return to the mainland by ferry then head to Glencoe and enjoy dinner at your hotel this evening.

INSIDER EXPERIENCE

Ride the famous Jacobite Steam Train.


Departing from Fort William, join the Jacobite Steam Train for a journey to Mallaig on the final leg of the West Highland Line. Your train will steam past Ben Nevis before climbing into the mountains around Glenfinnan, a town famous as the rallying point for Bonnie Prince Charlie’s assault on the British throne. At Glenfinnan, reach the line’s most picturesque section and one of Britain’s most iconic engineering works - the 21-arched Glenfinnan Viaduct. As you head towards Mallaig, the train drops down to the sea’s edge and the landscape opens up with the first views of the rugged ‘Small Isles’ - Rum, Eigg and Muck - which hang close offshore and tease in and out of view as the journey comes to an end. Enjoy free time in Mallaig before returning to your hotel later tonight.

After a leisurely morning, head to the Glencoe Visitor Centre where you have time to take in one of Scotland’s most iconic glens. Afterwards, continue to Fort William where you’ll board the Caledonian Sleeper for the return journey back to London.
