Cairo Return

This morning, drive along the legendary desert road that connects Cairo with the Mediterranean coast. Upon arrival in Alexandria, you’ll check into your hotel, and have the remainder of the day to relax in your elegant seaside resort. Perhaps this evening, explore the many waterfront restaurants and bars that line the famous corniche.

Stay: Two Nights, Steigenberger Cecil Alexandria

Today is dedicated to discovering Alexandria’s most famous historic sites. Begin at the Roman Catacombs, Egypt's largest Roman burial site. The catacombs lie over 35 metres below ground level and were only discovered by accident after a donkey cart toppled into the access shaft in 1900. Continue to Pompey’s Pillar, one of the largest monolithic columns ever erected, which reaches approximately 30 metres. Take a stroll along the corniche, looking out to the Mediterranean Sea. Continue to the Library of Alexandria, one of the largest libraries of the ancient world, with enough shelf space for up to eight million books. You'll also see the former site of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
