Explore the sights of Yangon today including the 2,000-year-old Sule Pagoda and Kandawgyi Lake which glimmers with the reflection of Shwedagon Pagoda. Take a walk down Pansoden Street to see British colonial buildings before lunch onboard your river ship. Watch the countryside drift by this afternoon as you cruise up the Irrawaddy.

Today explore Danuphyu, where the revered General Maha Bandula led a famous Burmese defensive against British troops during the First Anglo-Burmese War. Disembark to visit the Monastery of Maha Bandula and a home cheroot-making workshop. Later, cruise to Hinthata.

Stop in Minhla, the site of a significant battle during the Third Anglo-Burmese War. Take a boat to visit Minhla fort. Later, cruise to Magwe to visit its market and Myathalon Pagoda.

Cruise to Salay, to visit Yoke Sone Kyaung, the region’s oldest wooden monastery, built in 1882. Continue to Shinbin Maha Laba Man Paya, home to Myanmar’s largest lacquer Buddha, dating from the 13th century.

This morning enjoy the Nyaung-U market. Mingle with the locals and browse the wares sold at this trade hub. Later visit Ananda Temple, the best preserved of all the temples known as the ‘Westminster Abbey of Myanmar’. Have your camera ready for a special sunset viewing. In the evening back on board your ship, enjoy a puppet show.

At sunrise, perhaps ride a hot air balloon over the pagodas of Bagan.


Enjoy a full day to discover Bagan, beginning with a visit to the golden Shwezigon Pagoda, one of the country’s most significant religious sites. Later, discover Gubyaukgyi Temple, a 13th-century ‘cave temple’ with an Indian-style spire. Continue to a lacquerware workshop and a local village.

This morning enjoy a lecture on board before an afternoon tour of the village of Yandabo, the site where the Treaty of the First Anglo-Burmese War was signed. It’s also famous for its terracotta pots.

Ride by horse-drawn cart, taking in Maha Aung Mye Bon Zan Monastery and the teak-wood Bagaya Monastery.


Arrive in Inwa, an ancient imperial capital of the Burmese kingdoms. See the ‘Leaning Tower of Inwa’ – a watch tower that was damaged by an earthquake in 1838. Later enjoy a cultural show by the Mandalay fine arts school.

Visit Mandalay’s Mahamuni Buddha Temple, where you can see sheets of gold leaf being added to a statue of the Mahamuni Buddha. This evening, enjoy a sunset boat ride at U-Bein Bridge, thought to be the world’s oldest and longest teak-wood bridge. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner tonight.


Explore workshops in which thin sheets of gold, marble carvings and tapestries are made. Then head for Kuthodaw Pagoda to see the world’s largest book. Later, tour of Shwenandaw Monastery.
